Islamabad, November 26,2024 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters, led by Bushra Bibi, have reached D-Chowk, as the military has taken control. Intense clashes between PTI workers and law enforcement continue, with police deploying heavy tear gas and protesters responding with stone-pelting.
Increased security measures have been implemented, including the closure of Aabpara Market and Super Market, and the removal of vehicles from key roads, such as Khayaban-e-Suharwardy and surrounding areas. Shops in Blue Area have also been shut down, and service roads cleared of vehicles.
KP Chief Minister addresses protesters
Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, addressed the crowd at D-Chowk, declaring that the protesters would not leave until they received instructions from Imran Khan. Gandapur accused the government of resorting to fascism but reaffirmed the PTI’s intention to hold a peaceful sit-in. He emphasized the protesters’ commitment to freeing the country from oppression and resisting any external impositions.
Amid chants and slogans, the Chief Minister encouraged participants to remain steadfast, rallying their spirits during his speech.
Army takes over key locations
Military personnel have assumed positions atop containers around D-Chowk, and media teams have been directed to vacate the area. Rangers have been deployed at major buildings in Islamabad, while Army units have secured sensitive sites, including the Parliament House and the Supreme Court.
Announcements from local mosques urged protesters to exercise their right to protest peacefully, avoid vandalism, and refrain from causing harm. Authorities warned of strict action against anyone violating the law.
