Islamabad, October 2, 2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has directed authorities to formulate a targeted, time-bound strategy to curb rising unaccounted-for gas (UFG) losses at Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) and restore the company’s operational and financial sustainability.
Dar chaired a high-level committee meeting on the issue of mounting UFG losses at SSGCL, which was briefed on critical operational challenges, their financial impact and increasing distribution losses across the company’s network.
The meeting reviewed a range of measures to address the losses, including action against illegal gas connections, upgrading pipeline infrastructure, improving revenue collection and stabilising gas supplies for legitimate consumers.
Dar underscored the importance of ensuring energy security in Balochistan while addressing the operational and financial challenges confronting SSGCL.
He directed the relevant authorities to develop a focused strategy with clear timelines to reduce UFG losses, enforce strict protocols, protect public resources and ensure improved services for consumers.
The deputy prime minister stressed the need for coordinated efforts to address the causes of gas losses and strengthen the company’s overall performance.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Science and Technology Khalid Hussain Magsi, Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, Federal Minister for Public Affairs Unit Rana Mubashar Iqbal, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, Secretary Interior, Secretary Petroleum, Chief Secretary Balochistan and senior officials from the Ministries of Energy and Foreign Affairs.
