Islamabad, November 27, 2024 – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised Army Chief General Asim Munir for aiding in restoring order during recent protests in Islamabad. Condemning the unrest, the PM vowed decisive action against those destabilizing the nation.

Addressing the federal cabinet, the PM lauded security forces for implementing a successful strategy to quell the protests, which had caused significant disruption to daily life, the economy, and public services. Businesses remained shuttered for days, leaving daily wage workers and vendors without income. “Hospitals struggled, and the stock market plunged. However, stability brought a sharp 4,700-point rebound in the KSE-100 index,” the PM highlighted.

PM Shehbaz emphasized that investors thrive in stable environments and reiterated the government’s commitment to preventing future disruptions. “We must make tough decisions for development and prosperity. Those seeking to derail progress will not succeed,” he said.

Reflecting on past incidents, the PM criticized leniency shown toward May 9 protestors, whose violent actions resulted in casualties among law enforcement and destruction of public property. He commended the bravery of police and Rangers in restoring peace.

The PM also addressed the worsening security in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, urging the provincial government to focus on combating terrorism in regions like Parachinar and Kurram.

Shehbaz Sharif reminded the nation of the sacrifices made for Pakistan’s sovereignty. “Pakistan is a precious gift. Failing to value it would betray our founding fathers’ vision,” he remarked, pointing out the struggles of the poor and their inability to afford education for their children.

Acknowledging the military’s support, the PM noted signs of economic recovery, stating that even critics recognize recent progress. “The economy is bouncing back through unified civilian and military efforts,” he said.

Criticizing opposition claims of election rigging, the PM recalled the lack of accountability after the 2018 elections. He contrasted his party’s peaceful protests to the recent disruptive demonstrations, estimating daily economic losses at Rs190 billion.

Calling for unity, the PM urged prioritizing Pakistan’s national interest over political discord. “Our future cannot be sacrificed for chaos. Together, we must protect our nation’s progress,” he concluded.
