Rebels escalate offensive in Syria; Pakistan issues travel advisory
Share on WhatAppShare on XShare on Facebook

Damascus, December 6, 2024: Syria’s civil war has intensified with rebel forces, led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, capturing Aleppo and Hama and advancing toward Homs. Their progress threatens to cut off Damascus by targeting the strategic M5 highway, vital for connecting the capital with coastal provinces. These developments mark a significant setback for President Bashar al-Assad, who faces mounting pressure despite military support from Russia and Iran.

The humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate, with millions displaced and critical services severely strained. International aid efforts remain limited as casualties rise amid heavy clashes.

In light of the escalating violence, Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) issued a travel advisory urging its citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Syria. Those already in the country have been advised to exercise extreme caution and stay in contact with the Pakistani Embassy in Damascus.

Embassy contact information:

  • Cell/WhatsApp: +963 987 127 822 | +963 990 138 972
  • Email: parepdamascus@mofa.gov.ok

The FO emphasized staying updated on the evolving situation and heeding official advisories to ensure safety.
