Murree, December 14,2024: Politicians, traders, and the public have united in opposition to the Punjab government’s ‘Murree Development Plan.’ A protest was held at Lower Topa in Murree, attended by former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, formerI MNA Sadaqat Abbasi, and leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan People’s Party, Jamiat Ulemae Islam (JUI-F) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI).

The protest, organized under the banner of the United Action Committee, saw participants raising slogans against the government’s development plan. Amid the imposition of Section 144 in Murree, a heavy police presence was observed during the demonstration. Protesters demanded the immediate cessation of the remodeling project in Jhika Gali Bazaar and the lifting of Section 4 on Mall Road.

According to the United Action Committee, the government should not allocate billions of rupees to a mere 3-kilometer area while neglecting the longstanding issues in Kotli Sattian and other parts of Murree.

Protesters urged the government to address the problems of Kotli Sattian and Murree with adequate funding and to reconsider its current policies.
