Peshawar, January 25, 2025: Iqbal Hussain Khan, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Pakistan, expressed confidence on Saturday that the relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan will continue to strengthen with each passing day. He emphasized that Bangladesh is steadily moving toward democracy and that the ongoing changes in the country would foster closer ties with Pakistan.

Addressing media personnel at the Peshawar Press Club, Iqbal Hussain Khan was joined by Bangladesh Press Attaché Muhammad Tayyab, President of Peshawar Press Club M. Riaz, and several senior journalists.

The High Commissioner affirmed that the people of Bangladesh strongly believe in democracy and that the country is progressing rapidly toward democratic governance. He added that the recent political changes would pave the way for a brighter future, enhanced development, and greater press freedom in Bangladesh.

He also highlighted the growing enthusiasm for democracy in Bangladesh, noting that citizens deeply value press freedom and free expression. Elections are scheduled to take place in Bangladesh by December 2025 or early 2026, he confirmed.

Khan also reflected on the cultural and historical ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh, stating that these shared traditions provide a strong foundation for future collaboration in areas such as trade, commerce, tourism, healthcare, education, and the gemstone industry.

The High Commissioner praised Pakistan’s universities for their high educational standards and suggested that student exchange programs would benefit both countries. He also noted that ten Bangladeshi patients are currently receiving kidney transplants at hospitals in Peshawar, further underscoring the strength of Pakistan’s healthcare system.

Khan pointed out the significant demand for Pakistani women’s clothing brands in Bangladesh, highlighting that increased exports and exchanges would benefit both nations. He mentioned that Bangladesh is importing minerals, tiles, surgical equipment, and gemstones, and emphasized the potential for expanding trade in these sectors through collaboration between the two countries’ chambers of commerce.

He concluded by noting that direct flights between Pakistan and Bangladesh would help build confidence among the people and further enhance future cooperation.
