Lahore, February 23, 2025: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has hinted at easing the financial burden on the salaried class in the upcoming budget, following growing demands for economic relief.

His remarks come days after thousands of government employees protested in Islamabad, demanding the reversal of pension reforms and higher salaries and allowances.

Speaking to journalists in Lahore, Aurangzeb pointed to encouraging economic indicators, including a rise in remittance senders to 35 million and increased inflows through Roshan Digital Accounts. He also highlighted steady growth in foreign exchange reserves and reaffirmed the private sector’s role in driving economic progress.

The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the construction industry while ensuring real estate transactions remain transparent and free of speculation.

Addressing an event in Faisalabad a day earlier, Aurangzeb said the government’s tax reforms had broadened the tax base, reducing pressure on the national treasury. He noted that key economic measures were stabilizing the economy, with lower interest rates benefiting businesses and inflation dropping to single digits.

The finance minister also underscored the need for a self-sustaining economy, emphasizing that long-term growth cannot rely solely on external aid, including from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He stressed the importance of public-private collaboration, stating that a strong partnership between both sectors is essential for sustained progress.
