Karachi, March 18, 2025: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Karachi on Tuesday extended the physical remand of Armaghan Qureshi, the prime accused in the Mustafa Amir abduction and murder case, until March 24.

Armaghan Qureshi is accused of subjecting his friend, Mustafa Amir, to brutal torture at his residence in Karachi’s DHA before burning him alive in the Hub area of Balochistan on January 6, 2025. The victim’s body was discovered by police inside a car near the Hub checkpost on January 12 and was initially buried by the Edhi Foundation on January 16. A subsequent DNA test confirmed the remains belonged to Mustafa Amir.

During today’s hearing, the investigating officer (IO) presented Armaghan before the ATC judge, requesting an extension of physical remand to complete the investigation.

Meanwhile, police were forced to remove the accused’s father, Kamran Asghar, from the courtroom after he created a disturbance before the judge. However, Armaghan refused to accept new legal counsel provided by his father and also refused to meet him.

The court adjourned the hearing and directed authorities to present a progress report at the next session.

During the previous hearing, the IO revealed key details, including:

  • Armaghan confessed to informing his father about the murder, and his father advised him to go into hiding while they relocated their software house.
  • The accused traveled to Lahore, Islamabad, and Skardu with his friend, Shiraz, in an attempt to evade arrest.
  • The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) is interrogating him over the recovery of illicit arms.
  • The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cybercrime Cell and Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) are also questioning him.
  • The accused is a wanted fugitive in at least eight cases, including drugs, extortion, and other crimes.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the police have been instructed to gather further evidence before the next court hearing.
