Doha, June 24, 2025: Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani on Tuesday strongly condemned Iran’s missile strike on the U.S. military base at Al-Udeid, calling the attack “unacceptable” and contrary to Qatar’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate regional tensions.
“The attack on the State of Qatar is an unacceptable act—especially considering that Qatar has been exerting significant diplomatic efforts to bring about de-escalation,” Sheikh Mohammed told reporters at a press briefing in Doha.
The prime minister also revealed that Doha has officially communicated with Iranian authorities to discuss the ceasefire proposal announced by former U.S. President Donald Trump. “We have conveyed our concerns to Iran and discussed the importance of restraint, particularly in light of the ceasefire initiative,” he said.
On Monday evening, Iranian forces launched a missile assault on the Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest U.S. military installation in the Middle East. Explosions were reported near the base and in parts of the Qatari capital. The attack came after Tehran vowed retaliation for recent U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
Qatari defense officials confirmed that the country’s air defense systems intercepted incoming projectiles aimed at Al-Udeid, preventing further damage or casualties.
The incident drew strong condemnation from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) members and Arab states, who warned that further escalation could destabilize the broader region.
Despite the tensions, Qatar reaffirmed its commitment to diplomacy and regional peace. “We continue to urge all parties to act with restraint and prioritize dialogue over confrontation,” said Sheikh Mohammed.
