New Delhi, October 7, 2024: India’s government has reacted sharply to the warm reception given to renowned Islamic scholar Dr. Zakir Naik upon his arrival in Pakistan. The Modi administration has expressed outrage, treating the visit as a significant affront. Alongside the government’s displeasure, the Indian media has also erupted in a storm of criticism and speculation.

Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Bharat Jaiswal expressed dismay over Dr. Naik’s visit and the grand reception he received in Pakistan, though he stated that it was “not surprising.” Speaking to the media, Jaiswal said it remains unclear whether Dr. Naik travelled to Pakistan using an Indian passport. He also mentioned that when the Malaysian Prime Minister visited India, discussions regarding Dr. Zakir Naik took place. In what appears to be retaliatory action, Dr. Zakir Naik’s official account on “X” (formerly known as Twitter) has reportedly been suspended following his visit, adding another layer to the diplomatic tensions surrounding the event.
