Tehran, January 17,2026: Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned a recent statement by the G7 countries on Iran’s internal situation, calling it an “interventionist” move and evidence of what it described as the group’s “fraudulent approach” to human rights under the leadership of the United States.
In an official statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said the G7 countries, acting under the influence of the United States and what it referred to as the “Zionist regime,” were deliberately ignoring what it called the “organized role of terrorist elements” in turning peaceful gatherings into violent incidents between January 8 and 10, 2026. According to the statement, these incidents resulted in attacks on protesters as well as law enforcement and security personnel, causing injuries and loss of life.
The ministry alleged that public remarks by current and former US officials, along with statements from Israeli officials, had incited violence and terrorism. It further claimed that intelligence and security evidence pointed to the direct involvement of Israel in equipping and organizing armed groups, with support from the United States.
Reaffirming its constitutional commitments, Iran said it remained legally and morally bound to protect the fundamental rights of its citizens, including the right to peaceful protest. At the same time, the statement emphasized that the state would take all necessary measures to safeguard public order, national security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity against what it described as terrorism and foreign-backed threats.
The Foreign Ministry also accused G7 member states of having “shameful records” of human rights violations, both domestically and in West Asia, and of either actively supporting or remaining silent on Israel’s actions against Palestinians. It said this deprived them of any moral authority to lecture other nations on human rights.
Referring to past events, the statement said Iranians would not forget what it described as the support of the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, and other G7 members for Israel’s military actions against Iran, which it claimed resulted in the killing of hundreds of Iranians in the summer of 2025.
The ministry concluded by urging the G7 countries to cease what it called illegal interference in Iran’s internal affairs, lift sanctions imposed on the Iranian people, and stop using human rights discourse as a pretext for political pressure, interference, and what it described as the encouragement of violence and terrorism.
