Islamabad, February 5, 2026: The Sri Lankan High Commission in Pakistan commemorated the 78th anniversary of Sri Lanka’s Independence at the official residence of the High Commissioner in Islamabad.
The ceremony was attended by Sri Lankan nationals residing and working in the capital, including representatives of LOLC, the World Bank, and UNICEF. Sri Lankan students enrolled at various universities, Tri-Forces personnel undergoing different professional courses, and members of the High Commission staff were also present.
The event commenced with the ceremonial hoisting of the Sri Lankan National Flag, followed by multi-religious observances conducted in accordance with Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic, and Christian traditions, reflecting the country’s spirit of unity, diversity, and harmony.
Subsequently, the message of His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka was read out. The High Commissioner then addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of Independence Day and reaffirming Sri Lanka’s national values and commitment to peace and progress.
