Baghdad, February 5, 2026: The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Baghdad organized a commemorative event to observe Kashmir Solidarity Day, expressing support for the Kashmiri people and highlighting the longstanding Kashmir dispute, human rights concerns, and the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K). The event was attended by a large number of Pakistani and Kashmiri diaspora members, as well as friends of Pakistan.

Messages from the President of Pakistan, the Prime Minister, and the Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister were read out on the occasion. Speakers paid tribute to the sacrifices made by the Kashmiri people in their peaceful struggle for the right to self-determination. They also drew attention to the deteriorating human rights situation in IIOJ&K and condemned what they described as continued repression of Kashmiris under decades-long occupation.

Participants denounced alleged violations of United Nations Security Council resolutions and urged the international community to play its role in ending state-sponsored repression and ensuring a free, fair, and impartial plebiscite in accordance with UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

Addressing the gathering, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iraq, Muhammad Zeeshan Ahmed, emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir remains an internationally recognized disputed territory, as reflected in various UN Security Council resolutions. He reiterated that the Government and people of Pakistan remain committed to the Kashmir cause and will continue to advocate for Kashmiris at international forums.

The Ambassador stated that, in addition to what he termed prolonged occupation and oppression in IIOJ&K, India has pursued a deliberate policy since August 5, 2019, to alter the disputed status and demographic composition of the Muslim-majority territory. He recalled the revocation of Articles 370 and 35-A of the Indian Constitution and the promulgation of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Order, which allows citizens from other Indian states to become permanent residents of the region. He added that Kashmiris have since faced a sustained military presence and systematic suppression.

Reassuring the Kashmiri people, the Ambassador affirmed that they are not alone in what he described as their rightful struggle and that Pakistan will continue to stand by them until the realization of their legitimate and inalienable rights.

On behalf of the Government and people of Pakistan, the Embassy reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm and enduring commitment to a just and peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, reiterating support for their right to self-determination.
