Islamabad, February 5, 2026: Pakistan and Uzbekistan have signed 29 agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) covering cooperation in trade, information technology, agriculture and food security, mining, defence, climate change, sports, culture, pharmaceuticals, counter-narcotics, and other sectors, including a joint declaration between the two countries.
The signing ceremony was attended by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. The two leaders signed and exchanged the joint declaration, which was followed by the formal exchange of multiple agreements and MoUs between relevant ministers of both countries.
Key agreements included:
- Foreign Affairs: Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and the Advisor to the President of Uzbekistan on Foreign Affairs signed an Agreement on Cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs for 2025–2028.
- Trade: Commerce Minister Jam Kamal and Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investment and Trade signed the Protocol on Expansion of the List of Goods under the Preferential Trade Agreement and agreements in the textile and apparel sector.
- Mining & Geosciences: The Ministry of Petroleum Division of Pakistan and the Mining and Geosciences Industry of Uzbekistan, represented by Minister of Mining and Geology of Uzbekistan and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, signed an MoU for cooperation in mining and geosciences.
- Counter-Narcotics and Law Enforcement: Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and Uzbekistan’s Presidential Advisor on Foreign Affairs signed agreements on exchange/extradition of convicted criminals and cooperation in combating narcotics.
- Information Technology & Telecommunications: Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja and the Uzbek Minister for Investment, Trade, Scientific Education, and National Cultural Heritage signed an MoU on collaboration in IT and telecommunications.
- Culture and Heritage: Federal Minister Aurangzeb Khichi and the Uzbek Minister of Culture signed agreements on the protection, research, and promotion of cultural and architectural heritage.
- Agriculture and Food Security: Federal Minister Rana Tanveer and the Uzbek Minister of Agriculture signed an MoU between the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council and the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, along with a protocol in plant protection for the import of fresh fruits.
Officials said these agreements reflect the growing depth and diversity of Pakistan–Uzbekistan relations and will strengthen bilateral cooperation across multiple strategic and economic sectors. The joint initiatives are expected to enhance trade, investment, technological collaboration, cultural exchange, and regional connectivity between the two countries.
