Abu Dhabi, April 9, 2026: The United Arab Emirates is closely monitoring the announcement by Donald Trump regarding a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, seeking further clarification on its provisions to ensure Iran’s full compliance and an immediate cessation of hostilities across the region.

In an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the importance of securing Iran’s commitment to halting all military activities and ensuring the complete and unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical artery for global energy supplies and international trade.

The Ministry underscored that what it described as unprovoked Iranian attacks over the past 40 days—targeting infrastructure, energy facilities, and civilian sites—necessitate a firm and decisive international response. According to the statement, the assaults involved 2,819 ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones, resulting in significant loss of life and extensive property damage. The UAE called for Iran to be held fully accountable and liable for damages and reparations.

Highlighting broader security concerns, the Ministry stressed the need for a comprehensive and sustained strategy to address Iran’s full spectrum of threats. These include its nuclear and military capabilities, ballistic missile and drone programs, as well as affiliated proxies and terrorist groups. The statement also called for an end to threats against freedom of navigation, economic warfare, and acts of piracy in the Strait of Hormuz.

The UAE expressed hope that the ceasefire would pave the way for sustainable and long-term peace across the region, benefiting all nations and reinforcing global stability.

Reaffirming its neutral stance, the UAE stated that it is not a party to the conflict and had undertaken intensive diplomatic efforts to prevent its outbreak through bilateral engagements and initiatives within the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Furthermore, the UAE emphasized that it has steadfastly safeguarded its sovereignty, security, and national achievements. It also called for Iran’s full compliance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), adopted on March 11, 2026, which condemned the attacks and demanded their immediate cessation.

The statement reflects the UAE’s commitment to regional stability, international law, and the protection of vital global trade routes.
