Lahore, May 1, 2026: Javed Afridi has officially invited former championship-winning captain Daren Sammy to attend the final of the Pakistan Super League 11, scheduled to be played on Sunday at the Gaddafi Stadium.
The invitation came after Peshawar Zalmi secured their place in the tournament final, prompting fans on social media to urge Afridi to invite the former West Indies skipper, who famously guided the franchise to its maiden PSL title during the second edition of the league.
Responding to the fan demand, Afridi shared an Instagram story tagging Sammy and inviting him to witness the final.
“Brother, we are officially inviting you to witness the final match of Zalmi (fans request) @darensammy88,” Afridi wrote.
Led by Babar Azam, Peshawar Zalmi have enjoyed a dominant campaign in PSL 11.
The franchise finished the league stage at the top of the points table with eight victories, one defeat and one washed-out match from 10 fixtures, collecting 17 points with an impressive net run-rate of 2.324.
Meanwhile, PSL 11 is approaching its conclusion, with debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen set to face Islamabad United, led by Shadab Khan, in Eliminator 2.
Hyderabad Kingsmen advanced after defeating Multan Sultans in Eliminator 1, while Islamabad United suffered defeat against Peshawar Zalmi in the Qualifier.
Zalmi have already booked their place in Sunday’s final and will face the winner of Eliminator 2 in the title clash.
For the unversed, Daren Sammy remained an integral part of the Peshawar Zalmi setup during the first five editions of the PSL.
The former captain featured in 49 PSL matches, scoring 691 runs at a strike rate of 146.39 and claiming nine wickets.
Sammy captained Zalmi in 39 matches across four seasons, leading the side to 22 wins with a win percentage of 56.41.
His most memorable achievement came in Pakistan Super League 2, when he led Peshawar Zalmi to their maiden title victory against Quetta Gladiators in the final.
