Islamabad, June 4, 2026: The High Commission of Malaysia in Pakistan hosted its annual engagement programme with alumni of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) and graduates of Malaysian universities under the theme, “Malaysia–Pakistan Relations in a Changing Regional Landscape: Opportunities and Challenges.”
The event brought together former MTCP participants, alumni of Malaysian higher education institutions, government officials, academics, media representatives, and policy experts to discuss evolving regional developments and their implications for relations between Malaysia and Pakistan.
In his opening remarks, Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan highlighted the significance of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme as one of Malaysia’s flagship initiatives for promoting capacity building, knowledge sharing, and South-South cooperation among developing countries.
The High Commissioner noted that Pakistan is home to nearly 850 MTCP alumni and tens of thousands of graduates from Malaysian universities, describing them as an important network that continues to strengthen bilateral ties.
“This annual engagement reflects our commitment to maintaining close ties with our friends and partners who have studied, trained, and built lasting connections with Malaysia. Beyond professional and educational linkages, these individuals serve as valuable bridges between our two countries and play an important role in fostering greater mutual understanding and cooperation,” he said.
He further emphasized that the alumni network represents one of the strongest people-to-people pillars of Malaysia-Pakistan relations and remains a valuable resource for expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
The programme featured an interactive forum comprising distinguished Pakistani experts and alumni of MTCP and Malaysian universities, who exchanged views on changing regional dynamics, emerging opportunities and challenges, and prospects for enhanced bilateral cooperation.
Discussions focused on regional stability, economic collaboration, policy developments, and contemporary geopolitical trends, with participants exploring ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in an increasingly complex regional environment.
Participants also discussed regional security issues and stressed the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts. Particular attention was given to developments affecting regional stability and their broader economic and geopolitical implications.
The Malaysian High Commission reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening educational, technical, and people-to-people cooperation with Pakistan and pledged to continue engaging the growing network of MTCP participants and Malaysian university graduates as key partners in advancing bilateral relations.
The event underscored the longstanding friendship between Malaysia and Pakistan and highlighted the role of educational and professional exchanges in promoting stronger diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties between the two nations.
