Washington, March 8, 2025: The United States has issued a fresh travel advisory for Pakistan, warning American citizens to reconsider travel due to ongoing security risks, including terrorism and potential armed conflict.
According to the US State Department, extremist groups continue to plan attacks, especially in the provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The advisory highlights that terrorist attacks may occur without warning, targeting transportation hubs, shopping malls, military installations, airports, universities, and places of worship. US government personnel in Pakistan are prohibited from attending large public gatherings due to security risks while Islamabad has a stronger security infrastructure, conditions across the country remain unpredictable and could change rapidly.
The advisory comes as the Trump administration considers broader travel restrictions, including a potential ban on travelers from Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Sources told Reuters that the administration is reviewing security and vetting procedures for travelers from certain countries, which could lead to stricter entry rules for Pakistanis and Afghans.
Additionally, nearly 200,000 Afghans awaiting US resettlement are stranded in Pakistan, along with refugees from 90 other countries. Their status remains uncertain due to President Trump’s January 20th executive order, which imposed a 90-day freeze on refugee admissions and foreign aid funding for their resettlement.
This advisory may affect travel, diplomatic relations, and visa policies between the US and Pakistan. With the Trump administration considering stricter entry policies, the situation could evolve rapidly in the coming weeks.
