Sydney, June 13, 2025: Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam has expressed his excitement ahead of his debut in the KFC Big Bash League (BBL) 15, having officially signed with the Sydney Sixers for the upcoming season. This marks a significant chapter in Babar’s T20 career and his first appearance in Australia’s premier domestic T20 tournament.

In a video message shared by the franchise on Friday, the 30-year-old star batter said he is thrilled at the prospect of sharing the field with Australian stalwarts Steve Smith and Josh Hazlewood.

“Hey guys, super pumped to be joining the Sydney Sixers. Cannot wait to share the dressing room with my favorite batter, Steve Smith, and world-class bowler, Josh Hazlewood,” Babar said.
“I have always loved playing in Australia, but making my BBL debut will be something special. I’m really excited and looking forward to meeting my crazy cricket fans there.”

Babar described the move as both a personal and professional milestone.

“It’s an exciting opportunity to play in one of the world’s best T20 leagues and to be part of such a successful and respected franchise,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to contributing to the team’s success, building a strong connection with the fans, and sharing this experience with my friends, family, and supporters back home in Pakistan.”

Under BBL rules, each team is allowed to pre-sign one overseas player ahead of the official BBL 15 Draft scheduled for Thursday, June 19. The Sixers used that option to secure Babar Azam, one of the world’s most consistent T20 batters.

The signing ensures Babar will be available for the entire season, including the finals, giving a significant boost to the Sixers’ title aspirations.

Sydney Sixers Squad for BBL 15 so far includes Sean Abbott, Babar Azam, Joel Davies, Ben Dwarshuis, Jack Edwards, Moises Henriques, Todd Murphy, Mitch Perry, Josh Philippe, Jordan Silk and Steve Smith

The Sixers, known for their consistency and strong team culture, are expected to benefit greatly from Babar’s experience, technical finesse, and leadership qualities as they pursue another BBL title.
