Islamabad, June 22, 2025: Pakistan on Sunday strongly condemned the United States for carrying out airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, calling the action a serious violation of international law and warning it could dangerously escalate tensions across the Middle East.
The condemnation from Islamabad comes as the Israel-Iran conflict enters its tenth day, with the U.S. military joining the fray by targeting three key Iranian nuclear sites — Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan — in overnight strikes. U.S. President Donald Trump announced the operation via his Truth Social platform, declaring it a success and claiming that all aircraft had exited Iranian airspace safely. “Now is the time for peace,” he added.
In a sharply worded statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Office described the situation as “deeply disturbing” and said that the “unprecedented escalation of violence” could have far-reaching implications beyond the Middle East.
“These attacks violate all norms of international law. Iran has the legitimate right to defend itself under the UN Charter,” the statement said, while urging all parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid further aggression.
Pakistan emphasized the need to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure in accordance with International Humanitarian Law. It reiterated that dialogue and diplomacy, in line with the principles of the UN Charter, remain the only viable pathway to peace.
“The conflict must be brought to an immediate end,” the statement urged, echoing growing international calls to halt the rapidly widening confrontation involving Iran, Israel, and now the United States.
Ironically, Pakistan had earlier praised President Trump for his role in defusing a separate crisis between Islamabad and New Delhi, even stating it would recommend him for the Nobel Peace Prize. “President Trump demonstrated great strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship through robust diplomatic engagement with both Islamabad and New Delhi,” the Foreign Office had said at the time.
The shift from commendation to condemnation underscores the volatile nature of current geopolitics, with Pakistan now warning that further escalation could trigger instability far beyond the borders of the Middle East.
