Islamabad, October 6, 2024 – The federal government has officially banned the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), citing concerns over national security and public order. A notification issued by the Interior Ministry declared the movement as “unlawful” under Section 11B of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997, stating that PTM presents a “significant threat” to peace and safety in the country.

In related developments, Manzoor Pashteen, leader of PTM, has been invited by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to attend the Pashtun Qaumi Jirga scheduled for October 11. During a meeting between the two leaders, Pashteen stressed the need for Pashtun unity. Gandapur reportedly expressed his support for the Pashtun cause and assured cooperation from the provincial government in the jirga’s proceedings.

Preparations are in full swing for the Pashtun Qaumi Jirga in the Khyber tribal district. Pashteen confirmed that all arrangements at the venue are complete, with different tents set up for various participating communities and organizations.
