Islamabad, August 22, 2025: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday pledged swift relief and rehabilitation measures for families devastated by recent floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, vowing that the federal government would stand firmly with the victims.
Chairing a federal cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister voiced grave concern over the loss of life and property caused by torrential rains, cloudbursts, and flash floods in Swat, Swabi, Mansehra, Shangla, and adjoining districts. He said the NDMA, federal institutions, and the armed forces were fully mobilized in rescue and relief operations.
Shehbaz Sharif, who recently visited Buner and other flood-hit areas along with Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, noted that while this year’s floods were more localized compared to the 2022 catastrophe, the death toll was far higher, exceeding 700 lives — with more than 400 casualties reported in KP alone. He also expressed solidarity with affected communities in Karachi, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The Prime Minister stressed the urgent need to curb illegal construction on waterways and unchecked deforestation in Galyat and other regions, announcing that a special meeting would soon be convened to address these issues.
On foreign relations, Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the strengthening of Pakistan–China strategic ties following Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to Islamabad. He said he would soon travel to China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit and hold talks with Chinese leadership.
The cabinet members offered Fateha for those who lost their lives in the recent floods.
