Kashmore, August 31, 2025: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Sunday assured that the provincial government is fully prepared to tackle the looming flood threat as surging waters from Punjab move downstream towards Sindh.
Speaking to reporters at Guddu Barrage alongside provincial ministers, Shah said the evacuation of residents from katcha (riverine) areas was already underway as the belt faced imminent risk of inundation.
“We will make every effort to avoid breaching embankments,” the chief minister said. “But if inflows reach 900,000 cusecs, the Shahi embankment could come under serious threat.”
He stressed that protecting lives and livestock was the government’s foremost priority. Shah noted that exceptionally high floods had already been recorded at Head Trimmu on the Chenab and Sulemanki Headworks on the Sutlej, underscoring the gravity of the challenge as waters advance towards Sindh’s barrages.
Officials at Guddu, Sukkur and Kotri barrages remain on alert, with evacuation and relief operations being expanded in vulnerable districts.
