Islamabad, September 4, 2025: The Capital Development Authority (CDA), in collaboration with the Beaconhouse School System, inaugurated Meco Garden at F-9 Park on Thursday, formally launching a large-scale tree plantation campaign under a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote afforestation and environmental sustainability in the capital.
The ceremony was attended by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa, who was chief guest, MNA Zahra Fatima, Beaconhouse Executive Director Nasir Qasuri, CDA’s DG Environment, senior CDA officers, teachers, students, and members of civil society.
The event began with the plantation of trees by the CDA chairman and Beaconhouse leadership, symbolizing the start of the campaign.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Randhawa said the initiative was in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of a greener Pakistan. He urged citizens, especially students, to plant eco-friendly trees and ensure their protection.
He suggested integrating plantation drives into academic activities, even linking them with student grading systems to encourage participation. Highlighting the ongoing “One Tree, One Daughter” campaign, he said its purpose was not only environmental conservation but also providing young women with leadership opportunities.
Randhawa also called on the private sector, civil society, and corporate entities to partner with CDA in greening Islamabad. He noted that GIS technology was being used to track plantation sites and monitor tree growth, ensuring accountability.
MNA Zahra Fatima underlined the significance of the “One Tree, One Daughter” campaign in empowering women and safeguarding the environment. She announced that diplomats and citizens nationwide would be invited to participate, and revealed that legislation to ban unauthorized tree cutting was being expedited.
“A special committee has been formed to oversee the campaign’s effective implementation,” she said, adding that awareness initiatives were also underway to protect green spaces.
Beaconhouse Executive Director Nasir Qasuri expressed gratitude to CDA for its support and reaffirmed the school system’s commitment to the campaign. Under the MoU, Beaconhouse has pledged to plant 5,000 trees across Islamabad.
He stressed the importance of integrating education with environmental awareness, saying such initiatives could inspire students to play a leading role in promoting sustainability.
The event concluded with a “Plantation Pledge Wall”, where participants committed to planting and protecting trees. Beaconhouse also presented souvenirs to guests as a gesture of appreciation.
