Rawalpindi, September 5, 2025: Punjab police on Friday arrested two women accused of hurling an egg at Aleema Khanum, the sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, during her media talk outside Adiala Jail, where proceedings of the Toshakhana case were underway.
Footage of the episode, widely circulated on news channels and social media, showed Aleema Khan visibly shocked as an egg was thrown at her while she addressed reporters.
According to a statement from the Rawalpindi police, the suspects were PTI supporters who had arrived in Rawalpindi along with members of the All Government Employees Grand Alliance (AGEGA) and the All Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA) to protest unmet demands.
“The egging took place when Aleema Khan did not respond to the questions raised by the two women,” the statement read, adding that both suspects were taken into custody and shifted to the Adiala checkpoint.
Police said the women attempted to flee in their car immediately after the attack, but their vehicle was surrounded by PTI supporters. Some party workers reportedly pelted the car with pebbles, shattering its windscreen.
Video clips later reposted by PTI on X (formerly Twitter) showed a white Honda BR-V with registration number BJS-608, which the party identified as the vehicle used by the suspects. PTI denounced the incident as a “shameful attack on Aleema Khan.”
In a statement, PTI alleged that the women had been “sent with an agenda” and accused police of facilitating their escape. The party also demanded the registration of a first information report (FIR) against those involved in the attack.
Aleema Khan has been actively campaigning for her brother’s release since August 2024. Imran Khan, imprisoned since August 2023, is currently serving a sentence in the £190 million corruption case while also facing trials related to the May 9 incidents under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
This is not the first time PTI leadership has faced such incidents. In November 2014, police foiled a plot to attack Imran Khan with rotten eggs and tomatoes in Gujranwala, after reports emerged that political opponents were stockpiling them with the slogan “Ro Imran Ro” (Cry Imran Cry). Four activists were arrested at the time.
