Peshawar, October 8, 2025: In a major political shake-up, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has announced his resignation from office, acting on the directives of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.

Confirming the development, Gandapur said he had “willingly stepped down” in line with the party leadership’s instructions and vowed to continue serving PTI in other capacities.

“I am resigning from the chief ministership on the orders of the founder of PTI,” Gandapur said in a statement. “I will fully support the new chief minister and continue working for the betterment of the province under the party’s guidance.”

According to party sources, the decision follows intensive internal consultations within the PTI leadership, which sought to restructure the provincial administration to improve governance and align it with the party’s broader political strategy ahead of the next general elections.

Sohail Afridi nominated as new KP CM

PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja confirmed that Sohail Afridi has been nominated as the new chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following Gandapur’s resignation.

Afridi, a senior PTI leader from the Khyber district, is seen as a consensus candidate expected to help maintain unity among different factions within PTI’s provincial ranks and ensure a smooth transition of power.

Party insiders revealed that Imran Khan personally directed the leadership change, seeking to “inject fresh energy” into the KP government while keeping Gandapur engaged in key political and organizational roles.
