Islamabad, October 15, 2025: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced an extension in the deadline for filing income tax returns for Tax Year 2025, giving taxpayers an additional 16 days to submit their returns.
According to a notification issued on Wednesday, taxpayers can now file their income tax returns and statements of particulars until October 31.
Earlier, the tax authority had extended the deadline by two weeks, setting October 15 as the last date for submission. The FBR said the latest extension was approved in response to requests from trade bodies, taxpayers, and tax bar associations seeking more time to complete their filings.
The extension comes amid reports of a Rs1.2 trillion shortfall in the FBR’s revenue collection against its original FY25 target of Rs12.97 trillion, despite the introduction of Rs1.3 trillion in new taxes.
After two downward revisions, the FBR ultimately collected Rs11.74 trillion, with officials attributing the shortfall to unrealised recoveries of around Rs250 billion, currently pending in various court cases.
