Karachi, October 21, 2025: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday met senior religious scholar Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman and Sunni Tehreek chief Sarwat Ejaz Qadri in Karachi to discuss recent developments and the prevailing situation in the country.
According to sources, the participants agreed to hold a comprehensive consultative session in Islamabad soon to deliberate on all related issues in detail.
Naqvi visited Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman’s residence, where several prominent scholars from the Ahle Sunnat school of thought were also present. He was accompanied by Sindh Ministers Nasir Hussain Shah and Sharjeel Inam Memon.
The meeting included a detailed exchange of views on recent incidents and broader religious and social matters. Religious leaders presented their perspectives, while the interior minister assured them that all legitimate concerns would be addressed on a priority basis.
Naqvi reiterated the government’s commitment to non-interference in the affairs of mosques and seminaries, emphasizing respect for religious autonomy. He also announced that a focal person would be appointed to maintain regular communication between the government and representatives of the religious community.
Those who attended the meeting included Mufti Rafi-ur-Rehman Noorani, Allama Muzaffar Shah, Allama Liaquat Hussain Azhari, Mufti Abid Mubarak, Allama Rehan Azhar Naumani, Allama Ahmad Rabbani, and Allama Ashraf Gormani.
Later, Sunni Tehreek chief Sarwat Ejaz Qadri briefed the media following his meeting with the interior minister. He revealed that Naqvi faces serious security threats, which could lead to changes in the timing or venue of the upcoming Islamabad session.
Qadri said he had offered to play a mediating role to defuse tensions following the Muridke incident, stressing that “the gravity of the situation is clear to everyone.”
“We have always advocated peace and harmony and want all matters resolved in accordance with the Constitution and the law,” Qadri said, urging Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) workers to remain patient and disciplined.
He added that every effort would be made to restore the trust of the Ahle Sunnat community and ensure that dialogue prevails over confrontation.
