Lahore, October 22, 2025: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a series of sweeping measures to strengthen the writ of the state and curb extremism across the province, as the government intensifies its crackdown on hate speech and unlawful activities.

Chairing a high-level meeting on law and order for the third consecutive day, the chief minister directed officials to ensure strict enforcement of the Loudspeaker Act and establish “whistleblower cells” in every district to monitor violations.

A dedicated unit has also been created within Helpline 15 to receive complaints related to extremist groups and foreign nationals residing illegally in Punjab.

The provincial government has imposed a ban on advertisements, posters, and placards promoting extremist organisations. Individuals disseminating hate material on social media will face prosecution under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).

Officials have also been directed to take stern action against those organising illegal gatherings or forcibly shutting down markets, with such offences to be tried under anti-terrorism laws.

In a separate meeting, CM Maryam was briefed that more than 180,000 youths have been trained under the Hunarmand Programme within a few months — setting a new provincial record. Over 75,000 skilled workers have already secured employment, while 450 transgender persons have also been provided job opportunities under the initiative.

The chief minister also extended her congratulations to Sanae Takaichi on becoming Japan’s first female prime minister, conveying her best wishes for Takaichi’s success and expressing hope for strengthened Pakistan–Japan ties.
