Separately, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said during a press conference that Iran would also be severely affected by any escalation in tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, noting that Iran shares borders with both countries. He said Tehran respected the Taliban government’s decision not to attend the conference but added that participation in such regional forums could help promote mutual understanding and contribute to resolving issues between Afghanistan and its neighbours.
On the sidelines of the conference, Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan held a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The two discussed high-level contacts between the leadership of Pakistan and Iran and ways to further strengthen bilateral relations.
