Islamabad, January 7,2026: Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Islamabad, Hamza Humayun, on Wednesday reaffirmed that traders and industrialists are key stakeholders of the national economy, stating that addressing their concerns remains a top priority of Islamabad Police.
The CTO was speaking during a comprehensive interactive session with members of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), where he emphasized that effective resolution of traffic and parking issues is essential not only for smooth traffic flow but also for sustainable business growth in the federal capital. He assured participants that Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) would make every possible effort to facilitate the business community and enhance traffic management in commercial areas.
Highlighting the city’s traffic challenges, Hamza Humayun informed the gathering that nearly 1.7 million vehicles are currently plying on Islamabad’s roads, while the sanctioned strength of traffic police personnel stands at only 550. Despite the manpower constraints, he said, traffic police personnel are performing duties for 16 to 18 hours daily without weekly off days, making prioritization of critical issues imperative.
The CTO also briefed participants about the ITP Cavalry, comprising 120 volunteer university students who are assisting traffic police in maintaining smooth traffic flow. He encouraged the business community to motivate students from their respective localities to join the initiative and contribute towards civic responsibility.
On road safety, Hamza Humayun said lane violations remain a major cause of fatal accidents, adding that ITP has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against lane indiscipline through enhanced awareness and strict enforcement. He further disclosed plans to launch a Google-oriented mobile application that will provide real-time information to motorists about open and closed routes across the city.
He also announced that Islamabad Traffic Police is set to inaugurate the first women driving school, staffed entirely by female instructors, by the end of the month, terming it a significant step towards inclusivity and women’s empowerment.
To strengthen coordination with the business community, the CTO appointed Aisha Jamil, Station Director ICT FM, as the focal person to facilitate ICCI members in resolving traffic-related issues.
Earlier, ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mehmood, in his welcome address, praised Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Inspector General of Police Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Naqvi for their efforts to make Islamabad a safe, secure, and business-friendly city. He said the capital represents the face of Pakistan and assured full cooperation of the business community with Islamabad Police. He also highlighted key traffic and parking issues faced by traders.
ICCI Senior Vice President Tahir Ayub and Vice President Irfan Chaudhry shared the Chamber’s initiatives for facilitating businesses and expressed hope that ICT authorities would take concrete steps to address traffic challenges.
Several business leaders, including ICCI Executive Members Ms. Shumaila Siddiqui, Ms. Fatima Azim, Tahir Abbasi, Chaudhry Ashraf, Waheed Cheema, Ishaq Sial, Zulqurnain Abbasi, Mohsin Khalid Malik, Rohail Anwar Butt, Naveed Satti, trade leader Yousuf Rajput, and former SVP Khalid Chaudhry, shared their insights and area-specific concerns. The session was moderated by Chairman ICCI Standing Committee on Liaison with Police and former ICCI Vice President Saif ur Rehman.
The interactive session was attended by a large number of business leaders from Islamabad, including former ICCI President Mohammad Ejaz Abbasi, Ahmed Khan, Raja Abdul Majeed, and others, reflecting strong engagement and collaboration between the business community and law enforcement authorities.
