Murree/Rawalpindi, January 22, 2026: Murree, popularly known as the “Queen of the Hills,” is witnessing a fresh spell of snowfall, with up to four inches recorded at various locations, as a large number of tourists continue to pour into the hill station. District Police Officer (DPO) Murree Dr. Muhammad Raza Tanveer Sipra confirmed the latest situation and said law enforcement and rescue agencies are on high alert to ensure public safety.
According to official data released by Murree Police, tourist traffic has surged significantly. By 9:20 pm on Thursday, a total of 10,741 vehicles had entered the district, while 9,544 vehicles exited. In the city’s central areas alone, 9,551 vehicles entered and 7,469 departed, leaving around 2,082 vehicles within city limits. Over the past 24 hours, the total number of incoming vehicles stood at 11,339, with 2,278 currently present in congested zones.
DPO Dr. Tanveer Raza said he personally visited different locations to supervise traffic management, rescue operations, and to boost the morale of police personnel deployed in harsh weather conditions. He added that Murree Police, Traffic Wardens, and Rescue 1122 teams are working round the clock and have been stationed at all major highways and sensitive points to guide tourists and respond swiftly to emergencies.
“With continuous snowfall, our priority is to ensure smooth traffic flow and prevent any untoward incidents,” the DPO said, adding that he is personally monitoring the situation to make sure no commuter remains stranded.
In view of the forecasted snowstorm, the DPO issued a strict safety advisory for tourists and local residents. He stressed that the use of snow chains has been made mandatory to prevent vehicles from skidding on slippery roads. Motorists have also been advised to keep their fuel tanks full to ensure heaters remain operational in case of traffic congestion or delays.
Tourists have been strongly urged to avoid unnecessary travel, especially at night, and strictly refrain from parking vehicles on main roads so that snow-clearing machinery can operate without obstruction.
Reiterating the commitment of the police to facilitate visitors, DPO Sipra said police personnel at all entry points are welcoming tourists while keeping them informed about weather and road conditions. He appealed to citizens to cooperate with traffic staff and prioritize safety.
In case of emergencies or vehicle breakdowns, tourists have been advised to immediately contact Police Helpline 15 or Rescue 1122 for prompt assistance.
