Warsaw, February 27, 2026: A high-level conference of Interior Ministers from six countries on illegal immigration was held in Warsaw, with Mohsin Naqvi leading the Pakistani delegation.
The event brought together ministers from Poland (Marcin Kierwiński), Estonia (Igor Taro), Latvia (Richards Kozlovskis), Finland (Heikki Tamminen), and Lithuania (Gintaras Aliksandravičius), to discuss illegal immigration, human smuggling, and border security.
The ministers commended Pakistan’s robust measures to curb illegal migration and agreed to formulate a coordinated roadmap to discourage illegal immigration while promoting legal migration channels. Participating countries also committed to providing official-level employment opportunities for Pakistani nationals and enhancing coordination through designated focal points in each Ministry of Interior.
Extensive discussions were held on internal security, counterterrorism, anti-narcotics operations, and border management. Minister Naqvi briefed attendees on the situation along the Pak-Afghan border, noting the presence of 22 terrorist organizations in Afghanistan and highlighting Pakistan’s role as a barrier against cross-border threats.
The conference resolved to adopt a coordinated strategy to address shared security challenges and emphasized the importance of close liaison and intelligence-sharing among law enforcement agencies.
Mohsin Naqvi highlighted Pakistan’s comprehensive strategy against human smuggling, reporting a 47 percent decrease in illegal migration to Europe, and underscored the potential for joint action with European partners to further tackle the issue.
The Pakistani delegation also included Muhammad Sami, Dr. Usman Anwar, DIG Ahsan Younas, Dr. Abid Khan, and Sohail Chaudhry, reflecting Pakistan’s multi-agency commitment to addressing migration and security challenges.
