Murree/Rawalpindi, April 7, 2026: Authorities have issued a high-risk alert in Murree after eight consecutive days of torrential rainfall triggered multiple landslides and hazardous road conditions across the hill station and surrounding areas.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the area has received over 100 mm of rainfall during the past week, leading to severe soil saturation and increasing the risk of landslides and falling rocks.
District Police Officer (DPO) Murree, Muhammad Raza Tanvir, said continuous rains have caused repeated landslides in several locations. Authorities have officially declared Jhika Gali, Lawrence College Road, Lower Topa and Dhirkot Sattian as “high-risk” zones, where both major and minor landslides have been reported.
He added that dense fog has further worsened the situation by significantly reducing visibility, while slippery roads are increasing the likelihood of traffic accidents.
In response, the Murree District Police, along with Traffic Police, have been deployed in full strength at critical points, working closely with the district administration to clear debris and ensure road safety. The DPO is personally overseeing operations at sensitive locations.
An emergency travel advisory has been issued, urging both tourists and local residents to avoid unnecessary travel. Commuters have been advised to use fog lights, drive at very low speeds, and exercise extreme caution on mountainous roads.
Dr. Tanvir emphasized that traffic is being strictly regulated at vulnerable points to prevent any loss of life. He also confirmed that the emergency response mechanism is fully operational to deal with any emergency.
Authorities have urged citizens to immediately contact the Police Helpline 15 in case of any emergency, reiterating that public safety remains the top priority amid the ongoing weather situation.
