Islamabad, April 8, 2026: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephonic conversation on Wednesday with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, discussing the recent ceasefire and upcoming diplomatic engagements between Iran and the United States.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the conversation lasted over 45 minutes and was described as warm and cordial.
During the call, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep appreciation for the Iranian leadership’s “wisdom and sagacity” in agreeing to the ceasefire and accepting Pakistan’s offer to host negotiations in Islamabad later this week. He also conveyed his respects to Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
President Pezeshkian, in response, thanked the prime minister and acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts in facilitating a temporary ceasefire between Iran and the United States. He extended his best wishes to the people of Pakistan and confirmed that Tehran would participate in the upcoming talks in Islamabad.
Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact as diplomatic efforts continue to advance towards a broader and more lasting peace arrangement in the region.
The development marks a significant step in Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic initiative to mediate between Tehran and Washington and to promote stability in the Middle East.
