Stockholm, April 9, 2026: Sweden has welcomed the agreement on a two-week mutual ceasefire between the United States and Iran, describing it as a significant step toward regional stability. The Swedish government also acknowledged the important mediation efforts undertaken by Pakistan and other international partners in facilitating the agreement.

In an official statement, Sweden noted that the ceasefire could help create favorable conditions for restoring free passage through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital artery for global energy supplies and maritime trade.

Swedish authorities emphasized that it is imperative for all parties to exercise maximum restraint to safeguard regional security, protect innocent civilians, and ensure the uninterrupted flow of global supply chains. The statement further underscored the importance of building on the ceasefire to achieve a sustainable long-term solution.

Stockholm also reiterated the need to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons and engaging in activities that could destabilize the region and the West, stressing that diplomatic efforts remain essential to maintaining international peace and security.

Highlighting the global significance of maritime security, Sweden affirmed that freedom of navigation is crucial for functioning international trade. In this context, the country confirmed its participation in a multinational initiative involving approximately 30 nations, launched by the United Kingdom, to discuss the necessary conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

Sweden expressed its readiness to support these efforts through diplomatic engagement and political solutions, reinforcing its commitment to international cooperation and regional stability.
