Gaza, November 06,2024- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the U.S. presidential election, expressing hope that Trump’s leadership will support Palestinian “legitimate aspirations” for statehood. Abbas emphasized the Palestinian commitment to pursuing “freedom, self-determination, and statehood, in accordance with international law,” and voiced confidence that the United States would play a positive role in achieving these goals.

Meanwhile, residents of Gaza also expressed hopes that Trump’s presidency might bring an end to the conflict with Israel. Many in Gaza, including those who have faced repeated displacement and loss due to ongoing violence, voiced their desire for Trump to intervene and help establish peace.

“We were displaced, killed… there’s nothing left for us; we want peace,” said Mamdouh al-Jadba, a displaced Gazan from Jabalia. Jadba, whose family has faced multiple displacements and home demolitions, called for a leader like Trump to take strong action to end the suffering.

Umm Ahmed Harb, a resident of the Al-Shaaf area, expressed similar hopes that Trump’s leadership could help alleviate the suffering in Gaza, especially for the young children who, she said, bear the brunt of the conflict. “God willing, the war will end, not for our sake but for the sake of our young children who are innocent,” she said, adding that these children are enduring extreme hardship.

Both Abbas and the people of Gaza are hopeful that Trump’s presidency could mark a new chapter for peace and stability in the region.
