Islamabad, April 14,2026: President Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Sardar Tahir Mehmood, has lauded the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Board, under the dynamic leadership of Chairman Sohail Ashraf, for its prudent and forward-looking decision not to increase property tax in the federal capital. Instead, the Authority has chosen to adopt a more balanced and sustainable approach by focusing on expanding the tax net through addressing structural inefficiencies and enhancing revenue mechanisms, a move widely seen as business-friendly and growth-oriented.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the ICCI President termed the decision as “highly commendable and timely,” noting that it reflects a pragmatic and growth-oriented approach. He emphasized that placing additional tax burdens on existing taxpayers could hinder business activity, whereas expanding the tax net is a more sustainable and equitable strategy.

Sardar Tahir Mehmood further extended a warm welcome to the newly appointed Chairman CDA, Sohail Ashraf, expressing confidence  that he  will prioritize resolving longstanding issues faced by traders across various markets and industrial zones of Islamabad.

Highlighting the importance of a facilitative environment, he remarked that the growth and prosperity of the business community are directly linked to the provision of better infrastructure, streamlined procedures, and supportive policies. “When businesses thrive, it ultimately contributes to national economic development and stability,” he added.

The ICCI President reaffirmed the commitment of the business community to work closely with the CDA in transforming Islamabad into a vibrant and competitive business hub. He stressed that meaningful collaboration between public institutions and private stakeholders is essential to unlock the capital’s true economic potential.

He also announced that the Chamber will soon invite Chairman CDA Sohail Ashraf for an interactive session with business leaders. The engagement will aim to strengthen coordination, foster mutual understanding, and ensure the timely resolution of issues through constructive dialogue.
