Istanbul, April 17, 2026: Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to global peace and the resolution of disputes through sustained dialogue, stressing the need to end conflicts and promote diplomatic engagement.
He is leading Pakistan’s parliamentary delegation at the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), being held in Istanbul, where representatives from over 136 member parliaments are participating to deliberate on the theme “Nurturing hope, securing peace and ensuring justice for future generations.”
During the conference, Speaker Sadiq held a series of meetings with parliamentary leaders from the Gulf region and Iran, alongside Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar.
He emphasized the importance of restraint, dialogue, and pragmatic engagement to reduce regional tensions and promote stability. He also underlined that sustained hostilities between regional states undermine collective interests and weaken efforts toward unity in the Muslim world.
Prominent among the meetings were discussions with Dr. Khalid Al Maawali of Oman’s Shura Council, Speaker of Qatar’s Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim, UAE Federal National Council Speaker Saqr Ghobash, Bahrain’s parliamentary leadership, and former Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, who is heading the Iranian parliamentary delegation.
In his meeting with the Qatari Speaker, Ayaz Sadiq was warmly received, with both sides stressing the importance of unity within the Muslim world and expressing concern over rising regional tensions. The discussions underscored the need for collective efforts to prevent further escalation and promote dialogue.
During interactions with Bahraini and Emirati counterparts, Speaker Sadiq reiterated Pakistan’s call for restraint and peaceful engagement among regional states, emphasizing that prolonged tensions serve no constructive purpose and instead deepen divisions.
He also highlighted that global distractions from unity among Muslim countries undermine efforts to address key issues, including the situation in Palestine and Kashmir.
In a separate meeting, Iranian parliamentary delegation head Manouchehr Mottaki appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement and expressed gratitude for its support. Speaker Sadiq, in response, stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence, respect for geographical realities, and maintaining constructive relations among neighboring states.
The Speaker reiterated Pakistan’s broader vision of building bridges across the Muslim world to foster unity and collective progress.
In line with austerity measures, a limited parliamentary delegation is attending the conference, with members reportedly bearing their own travel expenses. The delegation includes senators and members of the National Assembly representing various political parties.
