Islamabad, February 17, 2025: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has announced that a rain system will enter Pakistan from February 18, bringing relief after an extended dry spell. Intermittent rain and snowfall are also expected to continue in various parts of Azad Kashmir.

According to the Met Office, most parts of the country will remain dry on Monday, with humidity levels ranging from 31 to 35 percent. In Islamabad, the air pollution index currently stands at 152.

After a prolonged period of dry weather, the rain system is forecast to bring rainfall to Punjab, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, and parts of central Punjab from February 18 to 20. Although Lahore and other districts of Punjab will remain mostly cloudy, no rainfall is expected today, resulting in continued dry conditions.

Lahore experienced cool temperatures early this morning, with light fog affecting the city and surrounding areas. The Motorway Police spokesperson reported the closure of the M3 section due to fog.

The upcoming rain system is expected to bring significant rainfall to various districts of Punjab on Tuesday, with Lahore’s minimum temperature recorded at 10°C and maximum temperatures likely to reach 25°C.

The Met Office also reports that a strong western weather system will impact up to 80 percent of the country’s northern regions. This system is set to bring snowfall to mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir, as well as heavy rainfall in several areas.

In Balochistan, the weather system is expected to bring good rainfall, particularly in Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, Chagai, Qila Saifullah, Qila Abdullah, Chaman, Pishin, and Khuzdar.

While Sindh is unlikely to see immediate rainfall from this system, light drizzle may occur in areas like Sukkur and Larkana. Karachi is not expected to receive rainfall, although the weather may remain partially cloudy.

The Met Department anticipates substantial rainfall in Punjab from February 19 to 21, with southern and central regions expected to experience 2 to 3 spells of rain. The federal capital Islamabad is also expected to receive 2 to 3 spells of rainfall during this period, bringing much-needed relief after the dry conditions.
