Lachin, May 27, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Lachin, Azerbaijan on Tuesday to participate in the Pakistan-Türkiye-Azerbaijan Trilateral Summit. He was warmly received upon arrival by Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.

During the summit, Prime Minister Shehbaz will join Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to discuss regional cooperation, connectivity, and mutual strategic interests. A bilateral meeting with President Aliyev is also scheduled during the visit.

This marks the third leg of the prime minister’s four-nation tour. Earlier in the day, he concluded a two-day official visit to Iran before departing for Azerbaijan. His regional diplomatic mission will next take him to Tajikistan.

At Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport, Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran Mudassir Tipu, and senior diplomatic officials saw off the delegation.

During his stay in Iran, Prime Minister Shehbaz held high-level meetings with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and newly elected Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian. Discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations, boosting trade and regional connectivity, and addressing shared regional concerns.

The leaders expressed mutual appreciation for efforts to maintain peace amid recent tensions in South Asia. Strategic cooperation, including joint efforts against terrorism and support for a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza, also featured prominently in the talks.

In posts shared on X, the prime minister expressed gratitude for Iran’s diplomatic support and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Tehran.

“Honoured to call on His Eminence Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei,” he wrote. “We exchanged views on current challenges facing the Muslim Ummah and discussed bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.”

He added, “We will continue to work together to strengthen trade, connectivity, and our shared commitment to regional peace and development.”
