Iran FM: attacks on Israel will cease once "aggression stops"; urges U.S. to condemn Israeli strikes

Tehran, June 15, 2025: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on Saturday that Tehran’s ongoing attacks on Israel will cease once Israel halts its military operations against the Islamic Republic. Speaking during a meeting with foreign diplomats, Araghchi framed Iran’s actions as legitimate self-defense in response to continued Israeli aggression.

“We are defending ourselves; our response is entirely legitimate,” said Araghchi. “If the aggression stops, naturally our responses will also stop.”

He condemned Israel’s recent strikes on the South Pars gas field — a major offshore project Iran shares with Qatar — calling the attack a “blatant act of aggression” and “a very dangerous escalation.”

“Dragging the conflict into the Persian Gulf is a strategic miscalculation, aimed at widening the war beyond Iranian territory,” he warned.

Araghchi further accused Israel of intentionally undermining ongoing Iran-U.S. nuclear negotiations, which he said had reached a potentially breakthrough stage. Iran had planned to present a proposal during the now-cancelled sixth round of talks scheduled for Sunday.

“This attack would never have occurred without a green light and direct support,” Araghchi asserted, casting doubt on Washington’s denials of involvement. “If the United States truly wishes to demonstrate goodwill, it must publicly condemn Israel’s strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.”

The Iranian foreign minister’s comments come amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing missile exchanges between Iran and Israel, as international actors call for restraint and de-escalation.
