Trump expresses optimism for Iran-Israel peace deal; Europe offers nuclear talks to ease tensions

Tel Aviv/Tehran/Dubai, June 15, 2025: U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed confidence that a peace agreement between Iran and Israel is within reach, amid escalating tensions and international calls for de-escalation in the Middle East.

In a statement posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, President Trump wrote, “Many meetings and phone calls are taking place. Iran and Israel will make a deal.” He compared the ongoing diplomatic efforts to what he described as his earlier success in brokering peace between India and Pakistan during his previous term.

“In the India-Pakistan agreement, we used trade with the U.S. as an incentive. I spoke to two great leaders who could make decisions quickly—and everything stopped,” Trump claimed.

Reflecting on his broader diplomatic record, the U.S. president added, “I do a lot of things but never get credit for anything—but that’s okay, the people understand everything.” He cited earlier agreements facilitated under his leadership, including between Serbia and Kosovo, and Egypt and Ethiopia.

Trump concluded his message with a slogan reminiscent of his previous campaigns: “Make the Middle East Great Again.”

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts in Europe are also gaining momentum. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, currently on a visit to the region, announced that Germany, France, and Britain are prepared to hold immediate talks with Iran regarding its nuclear programme in an effort to defuse tensions.

Wadephul stated that the three European powers are committed to facilitating dialogue, emphasizing that “Tehran had previously failed to take the opportunity to engage in constructive negotiations.” He reiterated his commitment to helping reduce the risk of further escalation between Iran and Israel.

The flurry of international diplomatic activity comes as missile strikes and cross-border attacks continue to stoke fears of a broader regional conflict.
