Mogadishu, January 8, 2026: The Federal Government of Somalia on Thursday said it has taken note of a statement issued by the United States Department of State regarding allegations linked to a World Food Programme (WFP) warehouse, clarifying that all referenced commodities remain under the custody and control of the WFP.

In an official clarification, the government stated that the humanitarian assistance mentioned in recent reports—including aid provided by the United States—continues to be managed and distributed by the WFP in accordance with established procedures.

The government further explained that the WFP warehouse in question is located within the Mogadishu Port area, where expansion and repurposing work is currently underway as part of broader port development initiatives. It emphasized that these activities have not affected the custody, management, or distribution of humanitarian assistance.

Addressing concerns raised in connection with the port expansion, the federal government said the matter is under review by a technical inter-agency committee, working in close coordination with humanitarian partners.

Reaffirming its position, the Federal Government of Somalia underscored its full commitment to humanitarian principles, transparency, and accountability, and reiterated the importance it places on its partnership with the United States and other international donors.

The government said further updates would be shared upon completion of the ongoing review.
